Staycation at The Rosarito Beach Hotel | Close to Home Comfort Combines With Otherworldly Culture at this Historic Destination

February 8, 2014

It's been a Baja California, Mexico destination for 88 years, hosting such celebrities as Marilyn Monroe, Orson Welles, Katharine Hepburn, and even Britney Spears.  The Rosarito Beach Hotel is 30 miles from downtown San Diego, but the feel transports visitors to another world.  This self enclosed resort offers prime access to some of Baja's best nearby attractions, while also featuring everything one could want from the comfort of a beautiful beachside hotel.  With its many amenities, its commitment to hospitality and service and by providing guests a FastPass for rapid reentry back into the US, the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort is a prime destination for Californians looking to staycation in style while also experiencing the rich and unique culture of a whole other country.

Studio in the Pacifico Tower
It's a beautiful 40 minute drive down the Pacific coast to get to Rosarito Beach Hotel.  The hotel offers various buildings of eclectic accommodations to make up its nearly 500-room resort, as well as several pools and hot tubs, a full service spa, numerous restaurants and bars, tennis, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, and so much more.  The main building was built in the 1920s and offers charming rooms, some even boasting a second story loft accessible by spiral staircase.  The Coronado Tower was built in the 1980s and offers seaside views of the Coronado Islands while capturing the warmth and feel of Mexico's Old World charm.  The newest tower, built in 2008, is the Pacifico Tower, which offers modern and luxurious comfort in condominiums available for rent, purchase, or for time share, including suite options ranging from studios to 3 bedroom, 3 bath penthouses.  We've stayed in each building and have appreciated the variant charm, but the Pacifico Tower is certainly the most modern.

Upon check-in, you'll receive the well-known RBH wristband. A charming bell hop will escort you to your room and from there on, it's all up to you. Grab a drink from one of the many area bars or restaurants (suggestions below) and walk the hotel's adjacent pier. Stay at the resort and enjoy the beach and many amenities, or head out and about for golfing, dining, whale watching and even wine tasting. There is so much that can be done with Rosarito Beach Hotel as home base.  Just ask and RBH's friendly staff can help organize anything from horse riding and ATV rentals, to babysitting and brunch.

Enjoy easy access to the lobster village of Puerto Nuevo, the fresh seafood village of Popotla, the cultural revival in Tijuana, the European charm of Ensenada, and of course Mexico's wine country - the Valle de Guadalupe.  Let RBH be your launchpad to all that nearby Baja has to offer, and EXPLORE! Don't worry if you don't know how to speak Spanish. We can't speak a lick of it, and we've traveled extensively throughout Mexico without ever having a problem.

In addition to providing guests with a FastPass allowing cars and passengers expedited reentry back to States through a separate driving lane (minutes compared to hours), RBH also can arrange shuttle transportation to and from the San Diego and Tijuana airports and can be easily accessed by cab at the border for about $30 US. During our handful of visits over the past year, we have always driven, as it allows for more freedom to bounce around.

The Rosarito Beach Hotel has become a destination for weddings, corporate events and family functions.  We just like it for exploration and relaxation! There are frequent packages and specials available. For more information, visit online at rosaritobeachhotel.com and follow on Facebook & Twitter.
