“Beer before liquor never sicker” might be the old adage and since nothing rhymes with simultaneously (try to find a word, we dare you), the new beer cocktail trend has yet to merit its own catch phrase. Beer cocktails complement the menu from Executive Chef Matt Ham at the recently opened La Jolla Brewing Company. Head brewer Brett Stampf brews five beers on site and this month, La Jolla Brewing Company turned ‘em into five shiny new beer cocktails with a little help from the Blind Tiger Cocktail Company.
Our picks? Try the Last in Translation, a playful mix of Wild Turkey Rye Whiskey, reduction of LJBC Cove Side Stout, Green Chartreuse, cinnamon, lemon juice. We’d also suggest the Hops and Robbers, a concoction of Espolon Reposado Tequila, LJBC Sunny Jim’s IPA, house made grapefruit lime cordial.
La Jolla Brewing Company currently offers five beers, brewed on site by Head Brewer Brett Stampf. From a golden ale called Neptune’s Nitro to the Cove Side Stout, a classic dry Irish-style stout, Stampf’s made sure beer connoisseurs are hoppy in La Jolla. Also on the menu is the Glider Port Pale Ale, Sunny Jim’s IPA and the Bird Rock Brown Ale. Make it in for a visit and try each one in a flight of four ounces tasters for $10. Once you’ve settled on a favorite, growlers are available to-go for $15.
