Armando's The Green Flash has been a landmark of Ocean Front Walk in Pacific Beach since 1990 , but the restaurant/bar at 701 Thomas Avenue will soon close its doors to be taken over by the crew behind Cabo Cantina, PB Cantina and Fiesta Cantina. The Cabo brand's owner Milton Zampelli will reportedly keep the location restaurant-centric rather than his usual 2-for-1 drink special, Mexican-inspired, rowdy "cantina."
There is no word yet on the precise date that The Green Flash will close, but the liquor license reportedly switches owners in a mere 10 days. Rumor has it that the location will continue primarily as a restaurant, seeking to maintain the family-friendly feel that the space has cultivated for nearly 50 years.
Originally established in 1965 as Armando's Snack Bar Café, and after that housing World Famous restaurant for a number of years, Virginia and Armando Gemora renamed "The Green Flash" in 1990 after taking over the choice corner property at Thomas Avenue and Ocean Front Walk.
