The second outpost of the progressively popular pork palace - Carnitas' Snack Shack - opens to the public at 3pm today in Del Mar Highlands Town Center in Carmel Valley. The new location features an outdoor patio and new menu items, but expect the same deliciousness San Diegans have come to love from the original North Park location.
Although some items are ever present, the menu at Carnitas' Snack Shack changes daily because the restaurant uses local and family farmers, ranchers, bakers, vineyards and breweries, sourcing ingredients as locally as possible to provide diners with the tastiest farm-fresh food.
The new Del Mar location features a few 'healthy options', new to the brand, including a Seared Ahi Nicoise Salad with green beans, cherry tomato, kale, egg, fingerling potato and kalamata olive vinaigrette; a SnackShack Turkey Sandwich with bleu cheese, walnut spread, red onion, and apple on sourdough; and the Veggie Burger with zucchini, artichoke, panko, garlic, parmesan, and shack aioli on a honey oat bun. Expect the classics as well including the Triple Threat Pork Sandwich, the Pork Belly App and Beet Terrine. For dessert, try delicious options from Andrea's Truffles, including Bacon Whisky and Salted Caramel truffles.

Carnitas' Snack Shack owners Sara Stroud and Chef Hanis Cavin will open a smaller third location sometime around Spring 2015 at San Diego's Embarcadero North as part of the San Diego Unified Port District's plan to revitalize the Embarcadero area. Rumor has it they beat out CH Projects for the space. There has also been plans for a Mira Mesa location for some time, but the pair have had trouble locking down a location.
Carnitas' Snack Shack Del Mar is located at 12873 El Camino Real, Suite M4, 92130, and is open daily from 11am-11pm. The original North Park location is located at 2632 University Avenue, 92104, and is open everday from 12pm-12am. For more information, visit carnitassnackshack.com.
