Postmates, an on-demand, nearly anything goes delivery service, is coming to San Diego tomorrow. The app allows San Diegans to order in from any store or restaurant for delivery in under an hour. This means Lucha Libre on-demand, Donut Bar delivered in minutes, groceries from Trader Joe's at the touch of a button, you get the idea. With the launch comes delivering of free burritos on Friday, Sept. 12, as a special celebratory offer to kick things off in America's Finest City. A California burrito. For free. Delivered to your door. Sold.
Postmates, which promotes itself as "the 'Uber' for stuff," unlocks the inventory of a city by connecting customers with a dedicated fleet of couriers to deliver almost anything, currently doing over 20,000 deliveries a week in 14 markets across the U.S. The app allows customers to get items - from takeout and groceries to retail items and even prescriptions - delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The initial delivery zone for SD covers Downtown, Point Loma, Pacific Beach, North Park, Hillcrest, La Jolla and Mission Valley.
The idea of being able to order all sorts of stuff at the touch of a button is certainly intriguing. Postmates makes that possible by picking up from merchants that don't offer delivery themselves. The app, available for iOS and Android, allows users to browse an inventory of thousands of restaurants and stores in their city, add items instantly, watch their rated "Postmate" (either a driver or bike messenger) moving on the map, and track their order status in real time. Deliveries start at $5 and users pay for everything within the app, including tip.
The launch promos for the San Diego release on September 12 include a free California burritos on-demand from 11am-8pm. Customers simply need to download the app and the promotion will be featured on the home screen - select the Free Burrito On-Demand store, add your burrito, and request delivery. The entire order, including delivery, is free. Postmates is also offering SanDiegoVille readers $25 in delivery credit - enter promo code SDVILLE and enjoy $25 in delivery fee credit, good until the end of October. There is also free delivery on all orders through September 28. Quite the incentives.
Postmates is also available in the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston and Philadelphia. To date, the service has driven over $20 million in revenue to local businesses across the country and has a fleet of over 4,000 local couriers.
