The Brew Project Will Bring The Ultimate In All Things Local To Hillcrest This Fall

August 21, 2015

Hillcrest will soon be toasting to a unique dining and drinking destination opening its doors in late-September. The Brew Project took over the location previously occupied by R Gang Eatery and will soon give neighbors and visitors a rare opportunity to explore San Diego’s finest local beers, all under one roof.

The Brew Project is the brainchild of craft beer consultant and co-owner Beau Schmitt. Beau has consulted for, and designed five bars, and was named one of “5 San Diego Brew Experts” by Thrillist in 2014. He has personal connections with over 100 of San Diego’s 112 breweries and brought the concept of celebrating and serving only local brews to 57 degrees in 2012. After its success, Schmitt set off to find a new location. Together with business partner Mike Sill (the former general manager of Quality Social), they found the former R Gang Eatery on 5th Avenue to be an idyllic location.

“We are very excited to embrace the Hillcrest community and welcome everyone who enters to enjoy our historic 1902 residence turned gastronomy,” says Schmitt. “Whether you like craft beer, fresh food or just mingling with friends, we hope to implement our passion for hospitality and bring it into the Hillcrest neighborhood.”

Celebrating the craft culture and cuisine of San Diego, The Brew Project will feature a fully rotating draft list with 24 local brews on tap, and most spirits will come from nearby distilleries, except the tequila, which they’ve left to the experts down south. Coffee and Kombucha will be available on tap, along with a robust wine selection. Craft cocktails will be a offered as well.

Much of the food at The Brew Project will be locally sourced, including house-prepped meats, pulled pork tortas, a substantial entrée salad list, shareable bites, homemade sauces and salsa, and plenty of avocado. They call the cuisine “American New,” and a bold list of San Diego-inspired dishes will make up the menu.

The décor will be SoCal rustic down to the hardwood floors which span throughout the Victorian-style house to their outdoor, dog-friendly patio. Guests will be able to reserve the upstairs for private parties or large events. Sports fans can entertain themselves with HD TV, NFL-packaged broadcasts at the bar, and there will be several separate areas for diners to feast on a lively brunch, lunch or dinner. Another feature unique to The Brew Project is its bottle shop, where customers can purchase wine and beer for takeout.

The Brew Project will reside at 3683 5th Avenue in Hillcrest. For more information, visit thebrewproject.com
