| The Daily Meal's #2 Best Burrito in America for 2015 |
The Daily Meal just unveiled its third annual list of the 35 Best Burritos in America 2015. Although the top burritos featured were spread all throughout the country, with this year’s list featuring 13 states, four San Diego eateries made the list.
Coming in second on the list is the California burrito from Nico's Mexican Food in Ocean Beach, a favorite of ours, too! Ranked #9 is the lobster burrito from El Zarape in University Heights. Coming in 22nd on the list is the carne asada burrito from La Perla Cocina Mexicana in Pacific Beach, followed by neighboring Taco Surf Taco Shop, which came in #28 with its carne asada burrito.
“Putting together this year’s list of the best burritos in America was a fun process,” said author Kate Kolenda, Restaurant/City Guide Editor at The Daily Meal. “The burrito is one of the most beloved foods of our readers, and we wanted to pay homage to that. The passionate feedback we received from our readers shows us that there’s just something special about burritos, and the many different types that are available.”
In order to compile the list, The Daily Meal combined research from prior years with suggestions from The Daily Meal editors and readers. The team next combed through online reviews and best-of lists that were published since the 2014 ranking. The team then asked nearly 40 burrito experts - like the Burrito Eater, Charles Hodgkins, and Justin Bolois of First We Feast - to weigh in and vote.
This year’s winners are located in 13 different states, with the West keeping its regional lead from 2014, with 14 of the 35 spots this year, the same number as last year. New York secured five, Texas has three, and New Mexico and Oregon each snagged two spots.
