The oceanfront Joe's Crab Shack location at 4325 Ocean Boulevard in Pacific Beach will close for business on Monday, September 21. The restaurant's 15 year lease is up at the end of the month and the building's owner is looking to sell, so Joe's decided to move on.
We published a rumor in March 2015 that the Cohn Restaurant Group was interested in taking over the Joe's location in Pacific Beach, but we have received comment from proprietor David Cohn that this is not at all true and that they have never looked into purchasing or leasing the space. We have since heard rumor that Joe Vaught of the Verant Group, owner of Tavern, barleymash, Sandbar, True North and more, and Todd Brown, owner of Bub's Dive Bar and partner at Good Times Design, may be joining forces on a bar/restaurant concept for this beachfront location. The duo were previously set to partner for the unrealized Roosterfish project that was planned for the building that now houses Water Grill in downtown San Diego.
Owned by Houston, Texas-based Ignite Restaurant Group, the company operates over 130 existing Joe's, as well as Brickhouse Tavern and Tap restaurants and Romano's Macaroni Grill.

There are still three Joe's Crab Shack locations in San Diego, which include restaurants in Oceanside, Hazard Center and another near Seaport Village.
