Local Grocery, Barrons Market, Comments On Closures Of San Diego's Fresh & Easy And Haggen Stores

October 22, 2015

Yesterday, Fresh & Easy announced the immediate closure of nearly 100 stores, more than half in Southern California. This news comes on the heels of Haggen filing for bankruptcy in September after opening more than 80 stores statewide. Barons Market, which plans to open its sixth store in Southern California this December, has commented on the closures.

“This market is unique," commented Rachel Shemirani, Barons Market Vice President of Marketing" We know first-hand that today’s consumer doesn’t want to sacrifice quality for convenience just as much as they don’t want to spend two hours grocery shopping each week.”

According to Barons, the key to success in Southern California boils down to an understanding of the region’s unique consumer and a custom shopping experience, including the shopper's desire for a less than 15-minute shopping experience, gluten-free foods collected in one place, and a focus on cultivating community. The stores also conduct weekly management meetings to vet every product and focuses on offering food food at good prices.

“The perfect balance comes when the consumer gets value in both product price and quality,”says Shemirani.

Barons Markets carry a large selection of organic, natural and specialty food at reasonable prices. For more information, visit baronsmarket.com.
