For those about to rock, we salute you!! The San Diego Music Thing music and media conference returns for its eighth year from Wednesday November, 11 through Saturday, November 14, offering an incredible line up of more than 100 live performances that span across nine different venues and 12 stages around America's Finest City! The best thing is that rocking out supports a great cause, as proceeds from the San Diego Music Thing benefit the San Music Foundation, a non-profit that develops music programs throughout San Diego County.
Kicking things off for this year's San Diego Music Thing is seminal indie rock band Yo La Tengo, who will be playing Thursday, November 12 at the Observatory North Park with special guests Blitzen Trapper. Other acts featured on the festival include The Joy Formidable, L7, AA Bondy, Viet Cong, In the Valley Below, The Paper Kites, Beach Slang, Here We Go Magic, Tamaryn, Milo Greene, Chicano Batman, No Age, Born Ruffians and so many more. Some of San Diego’s finest music venues are participating in this year's event and showcasing both big name acts and on the rise talent, including the Casbah, the Hideout, Bar Pink, the Merrow, the Irenic, Soda Bar and more.
Live music is only one aspect of The San Diego Music Thing. The conference portion will offer ticket holders the opportunity to improve their knowledge of the music business through interactive and roundtable sessions with nationally-known panelists and featured speakers who represent the best and most innovative aspects of the music business. This year’s featured Keynote Speaker is musician, author and educator Greg Graffin, widely known as the inimitable lead singer and contributing songwriter of veteran Southern California punk band Bad Religion.
Conference badges for single and multiple days are available for purchase online. All badge holders have full access to all San Diego Music Thing night time shows and activities. The San Diego Music Thing is produced by the San Diego Music Foundation and proceeds benefit the Foundation’s experiential music programs in 85 schools around San Diego County. Since its inception the program has helped over 65,000 students from grades K-12.
