Café Chloe Team To Open Chloe At Scout Garden Café & Events At Point Loma's Liberty Station

June 7, 2016

In 2004, Alison McGrath and John Clute joined forces to create San Diego’s first European-style cafe in the once blighted urban neighborhood of East Village. Café Chloe was embraced by the residents of neighborhood and the jewel box restaurant became a beloved and award-winning local destination including being voted #1 Best French restaurant by the San Diego Union-Tribune. Now the Point Loma residents are venturing beyond downtown to a new venue at the burgeoning Arts District in Point Loma's Liberty Station.

Chloe at Scout Garden Café & Events will be situated on one and half acres on the grounds of Scout @ Quarters D, the thriving design and décor store and studio set in a historic home at the former Naval Training Center. Located in the heart of Arts District Liberty Station, the new venue joins The Lot and Liberty Public Market in enhancing the appeal of this growing Point Loma destination.

"When we catered a Scout event a year ago, we knew we wanted to create something special here," explained McGrath. "Making the most of the gardens and the extraordinary view, we’ll be able to create a cafe in the manner of the simple outdoor cafes of Provence while providing additional exposure to the store and design services at Scout."

Guests will feel that they have been transported to a charming French park kiosk with outdoor seating for 20 people. Scout Creative Director Paul Scott Silvera is consulting on the design, décor and setting.

"We are thrilled to become a part of such a vibrant community as Liberty Station and to have the opportunity to work alongside the talented Paul Scott Silvera," added McGrath. "As residents of Point Loma, we’ve watched the project grow into a true neighborhood. We know that our charming little garden cafe will be the perfect quiet, calm counterpoint to the bustle of the village."

The cafe’s menu of pastries, quiche, cheese, charcuterie, soups and composed salads will be complemented by specialty coffees, classic cocktails, aperitifs and village-style wines. All menu items will be prepared in Cafe Chloe’s East Village kitchen and served on a charming terrace overlooking the romantic rolling lawn and garden. In addition to the garden cafe, the venue is poised to become San Diego’s most sought after event space.

"The Cafe Chloe team will bring our expertise to Scout to establish a venue for celebrations both grand and intimate," said McGrath. "With the ability to host weddings and events for as many as 500 guests, as well as charming soirees for smaller groups, we will quickly become one of the most sought-after event spaces in San Diego. In collaboration with the most esteemed event stylists in the city, including the über-talented San Diego Chef/Event Stylist Andrew Spurgin and wedding planner Catherine Bachelier-Smith, our cadre will create bespoke events of beauty, fantasy and creativity," she added.

The location will have many advantages as an event venue - ample parking, generous grounds which can be divided up in a myriad of pleasing ways for different- sized groups, and a full liquor license. The view across the rolling lawn of downtown San Diego will provide the perfect backdrop for iconic photo opportunities.

The garden is available immediately for private events with the café scheduled for a fall opening. For more information, visit facebook.com/ChloeAtScout or email [email protected].
