Adding to the three branches of his flagship restaurant Fig Tree Cafe (Pacific Beach, Liberty Station and Hillcrest) and a North Park Breakfast Republic that continues to pack in customers, Johan Engman is excited to announce that the second location of his Breakfast Republic concept is now open in San Diego's Liberty Station.
Breakfast Republic’s full menu will be offered from 7am to 3pm with an extended light breakfast menu and happy hour from 3 to 8pm. For those that have favorite dishes from the North Park menu, don't fret! Liberty Station will feature the same out-of-the-box creations, influenced by owner Johan Engman’s travels across the world. Guests can also expect some unexpected surprises due to a full liquor license resulting in a crazy cocktail menu with offerings like the “Cluckin’ Good Margarita” with Karma tequila blanco, lime, Cluckin’ Good Hot Sauce, cucumber and agave, or the “Sunny Side Up” with Slaughter House American whiskey, lemon, cane sugar, red wine, egg white and an orange peel. The 1,500-plus square foot space that previously housed Sushi Mura has been totally built out, including the addition of a 600 square foot outdoor patio.
A native of Sweden, Engman moved to San Diego when he was 16 and worked at various positions within the restaurant industry. He fell in love with the industry and knew he eventually wanted to open his own breakfast-centric restaurant. In 2008, his dream came alive when he opened the first Fig Tree Cafe in Pacific Beach. The rest, as they say, is history.

Although it was previously reported that Engman was in the process of opening another offshoot of his popular Fig Tree brand - Fig Tree Eatery - at 1495 Pacific Highway in Little Italy/Downtown San Diego, the deal on the space fell through.
