A staple of the North County San Diego food scene, 3 Local Brothers restaurant group is ready to make waves with its newest concept, a speakeasy located within the underbelly of its Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank location in Oceanside. 101 Proof will open its doors to the public on Thursday, October 27, offering a reservation-only experience with a strong focus on whiskey and cocktails using hand-pressed juice.
An ode to the Prohibition era, guests of 101 Proof can look forward to unique craft cocktails, an intimate atmosphere and unparalleled décor. Setting up shop in a former bank vault in the catacombs of Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank in San Diego's northerly Oceanside neighborhood, the journey begins at the exclusive vault door entrance on Vista Way. 101 Proof features copper penny floors, a copper ceiling and hits capacity at 35 guests. The cocktail lineup will utilize hand-pressed juices and hand-carved ice; patrons, however, can also indulge in a carefully curated beer and wine list and mouthwatering small plates by the Urge culinary team.
"Our goal was to harmonize the design aesthetic and menu items," said 3 Local Brothers partner Zak Higson, an Escondido resident who grew up in Rancho Bernardo. "I think we did just that. We’ve really focused on eclectic dishes to match Prohibition-era cocktails, with a strong focus on whiskey."
Reservation-only is the name of the game at 101 Proof. Guests can plan ahead for Thursday - Saturday from 6pm to midnight. Additionally, guests can sign up for 101 Proof’s membership program where they will gain exclusive access to bottles of single barrel whiskeys. Bottles can be kept onsite for sipping or used in custom cocktails.
Founded in 2007 by Grant Tondro, Zak Higson and Nathan Higson, 3 Local Brothers was born from the desire to provide quality food and imbibing options at value-driven prices to North County communities with limited dining options. Responsible for both concepting and execution, 3LB has successfully delivered on six staples in the San Diego area - Brothers Provisions, The Barrel Room, Urge American Gastropub, Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank, Mason Ale Works and 101 Proof. The expanding group continues to build on its success with innovative ideas, like the gigantic Urge Gastropub & Common House coming to San Marcos in 2017.
