Chef Aaron Obregon Out At North Park's Beerfish

December 7, 2016

It's always a curious thing when a new restaurant parts ways with its launch chef, especially when that chef was recently nominated by one San Diego publication as a contender for Chef of the Year honors. We have received word that Aaron Obregon has parted ways with North Park's Beerfish, which opened this past June, and RoseAna Peyron will take the lead in the kitchen.

"Chef Aaron is a genuinely good person and a great chef," explained Beerfish owner Abel Kaase. "It was one of those things, we had to make some financial decisions. It was the hardest business thing that I've ever had to do. It was unfortunately what we felt was necessary to continue."

Before taking the helm in the kitchen at Beerfish, Aaron Obregon lead the kitchen at Bay Park Fish Company and, before that, worked in the kitchen at Celebrity Chef Keegan Gerhard's now-defunct D Bar in Hillcrest. Chef Aaron graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Pasadena California, and immediately moved to Mexico City to start his profesional career as a chef. He worked at a few restaurants there, including Biko - a top 50 restaurant in the world - and eventually opened his own seafood restaurant with fellow chefs in Mexico City. Chef Aaron was recently nominated as one of the Top 5 Chefs of 2016 by San Diego CityBeat.

Chef RoseAna Peyron, who started as a sous chef at Beerfish last month, will take over the lead role in the kitchen effective immediately. A San Diego native, RoseAna previously ran the kitchens as The High Dive in Bay Park and Golden Hill's Counterpoint before that. There are no plans to change the Beerfish menu at this time.

Beerfish is located at 2933 Adams Avenue in North Park. For more information, visit eatbeerfish.com.
