December 10, 2016
This will be the second San Diego sausage shop to close within the past month. Salt & Cleaver in Hillcrest, which opened in April 2013, has announced that it will end the sausage party on December 21.
Salt & Cleaver was the work of owner Galen Zanetakos and Executive Chef Carlos SanMartano, who spent time in the kitchens of Brian Malarkey's Searsucker and Gabardine. The menu was centered around sausage - nearly 25 different versions and several house-made mustards and sauces, and the full bar was devoted to local craft beer. A similar concept, S&M Sausage and Meats, closed for business on November 23.
There is no word yet on what will come of the 2,500-square-foot space at 3805 Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest. We reached out to the restaurant for comment but have not heard back.
