Whistling Duck Tavern Nearly Ready To Land In Hillcrest

January 27, 2017

Whistling Duck Tavern is nearly ready to open its doors at the more than 3,000 square foot indoor/outdoor space at 1040 University Avenue within The Hub retail district in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Set for a soft opening as early as this weekend, the new bar and restaurant is from one of the co-owners of Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Saloon and will offer an Asian-fusion menu centered around housemade noodles, 24 taps of craft beer, and a curated list of wine and sake.

Executive chef/owner Charles Sun, who is a shareholder in Convoy District's Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Saloon, is ready to cook up a menu of small bites, rice bowls, house-pulled noodles and sides. Highlights include Korean bulgogi marinated beef jerky, XO fried rice with chicken & shrimp, Congee rice porridge stew, curry fish balls, Shanghai menudo with stewed tripe & daikon, and traditional Dan Dan noodles, to name a few. Behind the bar there will be 24 taps devoted to local craft beers, an array of sake, Soju cocktails, and a few wine by the glass. Whistling Duck Tavern has received an industrical-chic design with 120 seats in total within the 2,080 square foot interior and 1,200 square foot outdoor patio with views of University Avenue.

Although anticipated to soft open as early as tonight, Whistling Duck will not begin normal hours until next week. For more information, visit whistlingducktavern.com, follow on Facebook, and check out the launch menu below.
