It's baaaaack! Our often-imitated, never-duplicated monthly list of events returns for March 2017. After a rainy first couple months, spring will, hopefully, be in the air soon enough! With longer days, blooming flowers, and warming weather comes plenty of fun & delicious happenings around America's Finest City. This March will offer a buffet of epicurean events all across San Diego - from beer fests and pairing dinners, to whiskey tastings, to a cherry blossom festival, and even a bunny ball.

There are so many enticing events this March, so read on, get your tickets, mark your calendars and enjoy! Be sure to check back throughout the month, as this post frequently gets updated as new events pop up.

March 1, Sushi and Fruit Wine Pairing with California Fruit Wine - What drink goes with sushi? Red Wine? Beer? Sake? Find out why and you'll never look at sushi the same way again! The $40 ticket includes a five course sushi dinner paired with five half glasses of fruit wine and takes place at the California Fruit Wine restaurant and tasting room in Hillcrest. 

March 1, Shanghai Saloon Whiskey Tasting and Education Night - Dumpling Inn/Shanghai Saloon in Kearny Mesa is offering an evening of specialty cocktails, whisky flights & education. The $30 ticket includes discussions by 2 whiskey experts, a variety of whiskey tastings and a lesson in how to create the perfect cocktail, as well as light appetizers.

March 2, Chocolate Threeway with Cellar 3 at Eclipse Chocolate - Treat your tastebuds, & enjoy an exotic guided tasting of three exotic chocolates, three artisan cheeses, & three dazzling beers from Cellar 3. There will also be $5 glasses of house wine & craft beer all night long. Hosted in Eclipse Chocolate's Umbral Room, tickets are $23.60 and include an 18% gratuity.

March 2, Fermented Pairings Series Vol. 15: Truffles & Beer at White Labs Tasting Room - For this edition of the Fermented Pairings Series, White Labs Education and Engagement Curator Erik Fowler and Andrea's Truffles will be delivering unqiue and educational pairings using truffles & beer. Spend an hour and a half in the classroom discussing the production of chocolate, confectionery and all things truffle, while enjoying five delicious chocolates paired with five White Labs beers. Tickets are $25. 

March 3, Highland & Sea: Scotch & Beer Dinner with Macallan & Ballast Point Brewing at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa - Down from the rugged Highlands and up from the depths of the Pacific, two beverage producers celebrated for their equally impressive crafts convene at Estancia La Jolla for an evening under the stars. Sample Macallan’s single malt whiskies and limited release beers from Ballast Point, sip and speak with chief ambassadors during the welcome reception, and pick your favorite pairing during a hearty dinner where courses are coupled with both scotch and beer. The $120 ticket includes nine scotch and beer tastings, dinner, and a welcome reception with tray-passed cocktails, wine, and hors d’oeuvres.

March 3, Saint Archer Beer Dinner at JRDN - A beer dinner is brewing on the beach! Take a seat at Tower23's JRDN and enjoy a 4-course meal paired with brews from Saint Archer Brewing Company for only $55 per person.

March 4, Mixology Class & Cocktail Contest with Snake Oil Cocktail at California Fruit Wine Co. - Take a shot at the title of crafting the best craft cocktail and a chance to be the featured cocktail of the month at the California Fruit Wine Tasting Room in Hillcrest! The night starts off with a California Fruit Wine & Spirits tasting, lead by founder and head winemaker, Alan Haghighi. After the tasting, Frankie Thaheld, Master Cocktail Craftsman from Snake Oil Cocktail, will educate teams on the keys to culinary mixology and craft cocktail creation. Registration starts at $55.

March 4, Cosecha Barrio Logan 12 Course Dinner - Chef Steve Brown’s pop-up dinners feature a constantly changing menu based 100% off of Wild Willow Farm’s produce. The menu will be “Farm Driven Modern American” with a very heavy A-5 Satsuma Wagyu presence, as well as including foraged ingredients from the south bay of San Diego. March 5, Family Winemakers of California 2017 San Diego Wine Tasting - The Family Winemakers of California, an association of family-owned wineries from around the state, will return to San Diego for their annual tasting event. This year, the trade and consumer tasting festival returns to the Wyland Center at Del Mar Fairgrounds, offering tastings from more than 120 producers from California’s small, family-owned wineries who will be pouring upwards of 500 wines. March 5, Valle de Guadalupe Wine Dinner with Guest Chef Ismene Venegas at Garden Kitchen -  Garden Kitchen in Roland is hosting a Valle de Guadalupe-inspired wine dinner with Guest Chef Ismene Venegas from El Pinar de 3 Mujeres in Mexico. March 5, Cellarmaker Brunch at Toronado - At this installment of Toronado's monthly Sunday brunch series, chefs will prepare 9 courses paired with beer, each based off of one of Quentin Tarantino's movies. Expect dishes like Reservoir Dogs - pie ear chicharone with tuna Finedene, coconut foam and papaya slaw paired with Glow Pale Ale, or Pulp Fiction - A5 Wagyu with romane puree, tomato gelee, brioche croutons, special sauce and smoked cheddar paired with Mocha Coffee & Cigarettes. March 5, San Diego Magazine's Brunch BashFoodies and bon vivants will splurge on unlimited eats, bottomless beers, brunch cocktails and piping hot coffee at the 2nd annual Brunch Bash at Estancia La Jolla Resort & Spa. March 7, Galaxy Taco Takeover with Andrew Spurgin - What would an event in San Diego be without event-stylist and chef Andrew Spurgin? The master caterer, event creator, consultant and food stylist will head into the Galaxy Taco kitchen to create what will certainly be a very creative taco takeover. March 9, Saiko Sake Flights & Bites Series No. 3: Yamahi Kimo - North Park's Saiko Sake & Sushi will feature a 4 course tasting of sake paired with small bites. Always a sellout, this event is priced at $30 per person.

March 9, Waypoint Public's Brew Master Dinner Series with The Lost Abbey - Head to North Park's Waypoint Public for a very special evening featuring five courses from Chef Rich Sweeney paired with five of the best beers in town from The Lost Abbey. Brewers will be on hand to discuss the creation and how they compliment each dish. Tickets are $75.

March 10, San Diego Cherry Blossom Festival - The 12th annual Cherry Blossom Festival, or Sakura Matsuri, is an opportunity to partake in the Japanese custom of hanami, enjoying the beauty of cherry blossom flowers. This year's festival will host various food, daily programming of cultural performances, and plenty of activities for the whole family. Tickets start at $12.

March 11, Best Coast Beer Fest - Touted as actor and comedian Will Ferrell’s beer festival of choice, the Best Coast Beer Fest returns to Embarcadero Marina Park South on Saturday, March 11 for a day of unlimited craft beer, food samples from area chefs, live entertainment, and possibly even an appearance by the Anchorman star himself, all to raise money for Cancer for College. March 12, Festa Della Donna at CUCINA enoteca Del Mar - As a female-owned business, Tracy Borkum understand the importance of strengthening the community by uniting strong, positive-minded women. Together, with some of our food and beverage friends, they are bringing Festa Della Donna to life with a food and beverage pairing event featuring live interactive fiber art, as well as live music. 8 female chefs will pair their food with beverages from 8 female beverage makers. March 14, Modern Times Beer Dinner at Tom Ham's Lighthouse - Tom Ham's first beer dinner of 2017 will be an experience to remember featuring brews paired with chews & views. The Harbor View room will be transformed into the inside of the Modern Times tasting room for an 8 course collaboration 'casual' dining experience hosted by Executive Chef Kyle Kovar and the talented Chef AG Warfield from Churchills Pub and Grill, who will be pairing each course with the perfect Modern Times brew. March 16, Father Joe's Taste Of The Village - Father Joe's Village is hosting a charity tasting event to benefit homeless assistance and outreach. At this event, you will enjoy French country cousine prepared by the Freddie Evarkiou Culinary Arts Program, as well as receive a behind-the-scenes tour of The Village, networking opportunities, and local restaurant participation. March 21, San Diego Music Awards - The San Diego Music Awards started in 1991 and is now in its 26th year, presenting awards in over 20 categories and recognizing many different genres of music including Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, Americana and World Music. March 25, The Bunny Ball - The Bunny Ball is a black tie charity celebration from Cruise 4 Kids, a non-profit organization. The Bunny Ball brings together San Diego's finest to create a collection of new stuffed Bunnies to donate to sick and needy children this Easter season. March 30, Symphony Notables Present: Wine & Wears at the Westgate Hotel - The San Diego Symphony Notables are hosting Wine & Wears, a festive event at the Westgate Hotel where a wide selection of luxury wines, accessories, and experiences will be on sale while participants are invited to enjoy hosted wine, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. The Notables are a dedicated group of volunteers and advocates who serve as ambassadors in the community and provide crucial funds on behalf of the students that benefit from the San Diego Symphony’s music education programs.
