The owners of the San Diego-based Juice Crafters locations, which currently operates four outposts around America's Finest City, are in the process of opening Parakeet Cafe - a full service restaurant within the former La Taverna space in La Jolla.
Husband-and-wife owners Jonathan Goldwasser and Carol Roizen are now La Jolla residents, but the couple are originally from Mexico City where Goldwasser ran an optical business and Roizen was a successful attorney. When their second daughter was born with a rare disease, the couple moved their family to the United States to pursue treatment and began looking toward nutrition changes and seeing positive results for their daughter through a plant-based, organic diet and juicing. They since have opened four Juice Crafters in San Diego (Little Italy, La Jolla, Hillcrest, Coronado), with more on the way. All locations offer organic fruit and vegetable smoothies, cold-pressed juices, tonics, cleanses, and acai and fruit bowls.
Goldwasser & Roizen's latest venture is Parakeet Cafe, a full-service eatery that will open right down the street from their La Jolla Juice Crafters location at 927 Silverado Street in the space that formerly housed La Taverna restaurant. Expect a menu of healthy organic dishes with a Mexican influence, inspired by family recipes and complimented by a list of craft beer from both sides of the border and wines by the glass and bottle. There will also be a coffee shop component during the day. Parakeet Cafe is expected to open this spring.
