Less than a year after opening at 314 5th Avenue in the center of San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, Carne Prima Italian Steakhouse has closed.
With a kitchen helmed by Chef Alian Decka - who hails from Rome, Italy and previously worked at Chianti in Downtown San Diego and Cafe Bella Italia in Pacific Beach - Carne Prima offered a menu of dry aged steaks and Italian culinary staples. Located within a large, 2-tier, loft-like space in the heart of 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp, the space offered an upscale ambiance.
A tipster alerted us that Carne Prima had an eviction restoration notice and a notice of the right to reclaim abandoned property order pasted to the restaurant's front window. There is no word yet on who will move into the prime Gaslamp space or the reason that the restaurant closed, although online reviews appear to be mostly negative.
