Heading into the space that most recently housed a retail store at 4871B Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach is the first brick-and-mortar location for San Diego farmers market and brewery vendor Mad Munch Grilled Cheezer Co.
Mad Munch began in an Illinois dorm room with a single electric griddle back in 2003. There was a high demand for something delicious to help aid the hungry students through those long nights at Lincoln College. Ten years later, Mad Munch owner Zach, with the help of his fiancee Kate, fired up the griddle once again, re-vamped the menu, & made his cheesy debut in San Diego at area farmers markets and brewery tasting rooms. The concept has since became a full time venture for the two partners.
"We want to open your eyes to the versatility of the American classic," said Mad Munch Grilled Cheezer Co. co-owner Kate. "It's a whole lot more than just bread & cheese."
The menu at Mad Munch includes a selection of 'Cheezers' - twists on the grilled cheese sandwich. Options range from Cheezers with raspberry Jam and goat cheese, to more substantial offerings like a grilled cheese with hash browns, bacon, sour cream, and chives. Mad Munch will occupy a quaint 800 square-foot space on the eastern end of bustling Newport Avenue and is anticipated to open by early 2018.
