The flourishing Rise & Shine Restaraunt Group has purchased Miller's Field in Pacific Beach with plans to convert it into the company's 7th Breakfast Republic location.
Johan Engman is making his triumphant return to where it all started, as he entered the breakfast game with his first Fig Tree Cafe in Pacific Beach in 2008. His Rise & Shine Restaurant Group now operates three Fig Tree locations (PB, Hillcrest & Liberty Station) and has lines out the door at 5 locations of his Breakfast Republic eateries (North Park, Ocean Beach, East Village, Encinitas & Liberty Station) - with a 6th outpost heading into Carmel Valley. Engman also has North Park Breakfast Company near completion, is opening a from-scratch Italian concept called Pizza Republic in North Park, and is building an upscale Mexican restaurant in Liberty Station named El Jardin.
Glen Miller opened his namesake Miller's Field at 4465 Mission Boulevard across from the ocean block in Pacific Beach in 2007, and the restaurant & sports bar has been a hot spot ever since, making the sale come as a surprise to many. The upper level of Miller's Field will remain open for the time being. This Fall, Rise & Shine will transform the expansive 4,500 square-foot, two-story space - offering the kitschy style that Breakfast Republic fans have come to love and a menu of unique breakfast creations and boozy morning cocktails. Breakfast Republic Pacific Beach hopes to open by year's end.
