UPDATE: San Diego Dim Sum Destination Emerald Chinese Cuisine Shutters | Emerald & Pearl To Reopen Under New Ownership

January 5, 2018

We reported earlier this week that after more than 25 years in business, Emerald Chinese Cuisine took to Facebook to announce the immediate closure of all its dim sum restaurants, but the company announced today that Emerald Chinese in Kearny Mesa and Pearl in Rancho Bernardo would reopen later this month under new ownership.

Emerald Chinese has been a landmark destination for Cantonese-style dim sum cuisine since the restaurant first opened at 3709 Convoy Street in 1992. Owned by Susan & Steven Lew and family, the restaurant had recently undergone a fullscale remodel in Summer 2015 which included the addition of sister concept Koi Bar & Lounge. Emerald, its sister concept Koi Bar and the family's Rancho Bernardo restaurant Pearl Chinese Cuisine were all scheduled to shutter with ownership planning to retire from the restaurant industry, but the company took to Facebook again today to announce that undisclosed owners would be taking over the businesses and reopening later in January 2018. We have learned that the restaurants have been purchased by Shania Wong. Although the restaurants all remain closed for the time being, except for the fast-casual Emerald eatery inside Terminal 2 of San Diego's Lindbergh Field International Airport that remains open, Emerald and Pearl would both eventually reopen.

Below is the statement posted to Emerald's Facebook page on January 1, as well as the one from January 5.
