San Diego-based RMD Group - the hospitality firm behind such concepts as the new Volcano Rabbit, Rustic Root, Side Bar, F6ix, and Salvucci's - is bringing a new multi-level, multi-concept restaurant, bar and entertainment venue to the historic Grand Pacific Hotel building at the corner of 5th and J in the heart of the Gaslamp.
The Grand Pacific Hotel was built in 1887 and is the only Victorian hotel of its era that is still located on its original site. The three-story structure went from a hotel to a brothel, transitioning into a home for children called Helping Hand Home, and eventually evolved into the Children’s Hospital San Diego, which occupied the building until 1920. The 15,000 square-foot building at 360 5th Avenue was purchased in early 2016 by HP Investors, which also owns the Gaslamp Square parking and retail spaces to the south and Sofia Hotel on West Broadway.

RMD Group will soon take over the historic building in the heart of downtown San Diego and completely redesigned the once-Victorian hotel into a luxe dine, drink and social space, complete with multiple dining and imbibing experiences and plenty of food and drink options. Details on the project are very limited at this time, but we reached out to RMD for comment and will update our readers when we learn more. The project is not anticipated to be completed until early to mid-2019.
