San Diego's Burger Bad Boys Are Getting Into The Beer Game | Hodad's Brewing Company To Open In Serra Mesa

March 2, 2018

The crew behind one of San Diego's most iconic eateries is breaking into one of the city's top industries - craft beer. From the owners of the ever-popular chain of burger restaurants, Hodad's Brewing Company is set to launch in Serra Mesa later this year.

Heading into the 3,000 square foot building that last housed Acorn Press between Ruffin Road & Daley Center Drive in San Diego's Serra Mesa is Hodad's Brewing Company, a craft brewery from Hodad's owners - brother and sister Shane and Alexanna "Lexi" Hardin - and longtime company General Manager Jeremy Diem. Hodad's manager Marlow Myrmo will oversee brewing operations at the facility. The team will soon begin repurposing the space to launch initially as a production-only brewery and may eventually add an onsite eatery and tasting room, hoping to begin brewing by year's end.

Hodad's has been a staple in the San Diego neighborhood of Ocean Beach since 1973 when Byron and Virginia Hardin opened the first Hodad's location. The Hardin's had previously owned a burger place in El Cajon called "Hardin's Barrel", that they opened in 1969. In 1991, after several moves, the original owners' son Mike "Bossman" Hardin and former partner Teresa "Terry" Rhodes opened Hodad's at its current location in the heart of Ocean Beach’s Newport Avenue. Due to increased demand after appearances on such television shows as Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the burger shop expanded to a second venue in downtown's East Village in 2011 and a third in Petco Park in 2012. When Bossman passed away unexpectedly in February 2015, ownership of the company passed to his kids - Shane and Lexi.

Hodad's Brewing Company will sit at 9726 Aero Drive, Suite B, San Diego CA 92123. For more information on Hodad's, visit hodadies.com.
