Philly native Al Calozzi has been serving up Philadelphia cheesesteaks in Seattle since 2008 and is now expanding to San Diego, with a location now open in the space that last housed an Italian coffee shop at 1146 Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach. San Diego has something to be excited for, as the Seattle location of Calozzi's was once named on Men's Journal list of the 10 best places to get a cheesesteak outside of Philly.
Like the name implies, Calozzi's is all about cheesesteaks. As is standard in Philly, diners will order the sandwich “wit” or "witout" fried onions and top it with a variety of cheeses including Whiz, American, provolone, or mozzarella, served on bread made daily from a local baker. Their no-no-frills menu will also offer two signature cheesesteaks - The Donnie, which comes topped with mushrooms, or The Roni with pepperoni. The quaint eatery will offer patio seating on its sun drenched deck overlooking Garnet Avenue, and serve an array of bottled soft drinks with the goal of obtaining a beer & wine license in the near future.
