Gina Champion-Cain's The Patio Group purchased the building at 369 10th Avenue in the East Village in 2016 and opened Harvest By The Patio later that year, hoping to lure in health-focused diners with a fast-casual ground-floor market with a mezzanine restaurant. Well, that didn't pan out, so the company is rebranding the 3,500 square foot, two-story space into a third incarnation of Himmelberg's Bar, a rock-n-roll, surf-themed bar that currently has an outpost within the recently opened The Patio On 101 and will have a location neighboring the incoming La Mesa location of Surf Rider Pizza.
The Patio Group has announced that it will close its health-focused Harvest By The Patio concept in San Diego's East Village next month and rebrand the location into an outpost of Himmelberg's - a fast-casual, California-style bar & grill named after a longtime friend of the company's founder.
Named after Champion-Cain's close friend, the late Joey Himmelberg, who was a project manager at The Patio Group's parent real estate company, Himmelberg's will have a fast-casual, walk-up counter on the first floor serving an array of healthy items and sandwiches to-go, as well as a full-service upstairs dining room and bar that will offer California-inspired appetizers, salads, and entrees, as well as a full bar.
"Himmelberg’s is a further expression of what began in Encinitas at The Patio on 101 and Surf Rider Pizza Co. opening in La Mesa by creating a laid back community vibe in a place to get quality eats and drinks," said Hilary Rossi, Senior Vice President of Food and Beverage at American National Investments, the parent company of The Patio Group. "We are transforming Harvest By The Patio into an eclectic, surf-inspired food and beverage experience. Think of Himmelberg’s as the 'Cheers' of the neighborhood, offering one of the best happy hours, drinks and healthy to-go food items in the East Village."
