Nostalgia-Fueled Common Stock Soft Opens In Hillcrest

September 7, 2018

Opening today in the space that last housed Salt & Cleaver in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood is Common Stock, an upscale bar & restaurant ready to serve up dishes rooted in American nostalgia.

From Hillstone Restaurant Group alums, Anderson Clark & Brian Douglass, who are also both Ivy League graduates (Cornell and Yale, respectively), Common Stock is the first solo project for the duo.  The restaurant will meld fine dining and fast-casual, with both sit-down and counter service. Designed with a classy, New York City meets Copenhagen minimalism, the eatery opens at noon today and will offer a limited menu with items like umami fries, caramelized onion dip, a chicken sandwich, a cheeseburger, a Caesar salad, and a flat iron steak. Common Stock will also eventually serve an array of craft beer and wine, although the bar has yet to receive its liquor license.

"Common Stock is a new concept combining upscale, nostalgic American food with a blended, quick-service model," says co-owner Anderson Clark. "We will serve modern takes on traditional American classics, made from scratch with obsessively sourced ingredients, served in a fast-paced environment, which offers efficiency in ordering and proactive table service."

Common Stock is located at 3805 5th Avenue in Hillcrest. For more information, visit eatcommonstock.com.
