Fresh off a gold medal win in one of the most coveted categories at this past weekend's Great American Beer Festival, Temecula's Black Market Brewing Co. has announced that it will be opening a brewpub & restaurant in the San Diego State University College Area, taking over the 4,550 square-foot space that last housed an incarnation of Social Tap for a 2019 opening.
Founded in 2009 as one of Temecula's first breweries, Black Market Brewing Co. was started by former FBI Special Agent and San Diego State University Alumni Kevin Dyer. Soon after opening, in 2010 Black Market Brewing was awarded its first gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Rye Beer category and silver for its Hefeweizen in 2014. The unimposing craft brewery has since won numerous accolades and awards, including winning a gold medal for its New England Style Double IPA at this year's GABF in Category 65: Juicy or Hazy Imperial or Double India Pale Ale, which was one of the most entered beer styles this year.
Black Market's SDSU location will house a 10 barrel brewhouse and full kitchen, which will enable staff to brew and create new beers. In addition to a variety of signature pizzas and salads like those served at the original brewery, the SDSU location will also tinker with the idea of adding more pub fare options in the future. The brewpub will have an ample interior dining room, as well as an outdoor patio and parking lot. The location aims to cultivate a real brewery feel with the brewing equipment and fermenters installed in the retail space, as well as a glass window into the cold box to view the serving tanks.
