Industry veterans, including two longtime Aero Club employees and the owners of La Jolla's Shore Rider Bar & Grill, have taken over the Linda Vista space that last housed The Clutch Bar and will open The Cordova, a neighborhood haunt and cocktail bar anticipated to open next month.
The building at 1319 Morena Boulevard in San Diego's Linda Vista/Bay Park area was originally an auto shop before becoming a neighborhood bar in the 1960s. Recently, it was a dive bar called the Morena Club before it was rebranded into Clutch Bar mid-2015. The Clutch Bar closed in August, with new owners taking over the building for an interior renovation to transform it into The Cordova.
"It is bitter sweet to announce that after 5 years at the Aero Club tonight, (the 26th) and Tuesday (the 30th) will be my last two shifts," announced The Cordova co-owner Marie Sanudo. "The Aero Club has become a safe haven and a home for me over the years (this I know I am not alone on). I have met so many amazing people that have become dear friends and even what I would consider family. I’m so proud to have been a part of the long history of such an iconic San Diego institution. However myself and co-worker Chad Berkey are moving on to start our own venture. We recently purchased the old Clutch bar/ Morena Club, with partners Darren and Lauren Moore. Over the last couple months we have been working our little tushies off remodeling and giving this old classic new life. 'The Cordova' 1319 Morena Blvd. will be our new home and we hope you all come check us out towards the middle of November!"
