The team behind Park Boulevard's popular vegetarian Thai restaurant, Plumeria, is expanding the concept to Encinitas, opening an outpost in the space that last housed Siamese Basil.
Founded in San Diego's University Heights in 2012 by Pimwara Thongchua, who also operate3s Chi Extraordinary Kitchen in North Park and The Asian Bistro in Hillcrest, Plumeria Vegetarian Restaurant serves only vegan and vegetarian dishes. All of the eatery's traditional Thai offerings are free of fish sauces and animal products, with the exception of optional egg in some dishes. Plumeria is frequently named on lists of San Diego's top vegetarian and vegan restaurants.
The second Plumeria will soon begin installing where Siamese Basil last stood in Encinitas. Like the flagship outpost, this branch will serve a menu of plant-based Thai dishes made with organic tofu and mock-meats like vegan duck, chicken, beef and soy fish. . The restaurant will also serve an array of beer, wine, sake and Thai iced teas.
