We announced in early 2018 that San Diego's nearly 30-year-old Extraordinary Desserts would be moving from its quaint Hillcrest location to a new building in Bankers Hill. Well the time has come, the dessert hotspot will shutter its original branch after normal business hours on Wednesday, April 24 and reopen on the base floor of The Louie Lofts on the morning of Thursday, April 25.

Well the time has come, the dessert hotspot will shutter its original branch after normal business hours on Wednesday, April 24 and reopen on the base floor of The Louie Lofts on the morning of Thursday, April 25.
Founded by master pastry chef Karen Krasne, Extraordinary Desserts first opened in 1989 at 2929 Fifth Avenue on the outskirts of San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Considered one of San Diego's top first date establishments and a destination for all things sweet, Extraordinary Desserts opened a second outpost at 1430 Union Street in the Little Italy area in 2004, expanding its menu to offer a plethora of savory items and a full bar to compliment an ever-expanding selection of desserts.
Because the Hillcrest Extraordinary Desserts was forced to relocate due to a new building installing on the property, Krasne decided to move to a new home on the corner of 4th Avenue and Palm in The Louie Lofts retail and residential building. The 2,500 square-foot ground floor space was designed by Jennifer Luce of LUCE et Studio and features a 40-foot long glass facade with a central bronze bar. Glass cases will display an eclectic array of cakes, desserts and pastries. The full-service restaurant will offer seating for 100 guests with a variety of tables and a full metal-sheethed outdoor patio. Extraordinary will be located next door to the second location of James Coffee Co.. Expect an expanded menu similar to the Little Italy branch, including the addition of a lineup of cheese and charcuterie boards, as well as beer, wine, coffees and teas.
The new Extraordinary Desserts will sit at 2870 4th Avenue in San Diego's Bankers Hill community. For more information, visit extraordinarydesserts.com.
