San Diego's Paradise Point Resort & Spa To Become Jimmy Buffett-Themed Margaritaville Island Resort

July 22, 2019

San Diego's Paradise Point Resort & Spa will be rebranded into the first west coast location of the Jimmy Buffett-themed Margaritaville Island Resort.

Opened as Vacation Village by longtime Hollywood producer Jack Skirball in June 1962, Paradise Point Resort & Spa will soon be rebranded by urban and resort lifestyle hotel brand Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and singer Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Holdings, which was founded in 1987 when the singer opened his first restaurant in Key West. Next year, the 44-acre outcove in San Diego's Mission Bay will become the first west coast location of Margaritaville Island Resort San Diego. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, which owns 60 hotels, acquired Paradise Point Resort & Spa in 2018 and will assist with the transition along with the resort’s current management company Davidson Hotels & Resorts.

Located just 10 minutes from downtown San Diego, the site will undergo an estimated $35 million in renovations and conversion of the existing property. The new Margaritaville Island Resort San Diego will feature 462 casita-style single-story guestrooms with a "casual-luxe design" and waterfront views with a mile of beachfront overlooking the marina and Mission Bay. Signature Margaritaville food & beverage concepts and new recreational activities and family-friendly amenities will also be added. Adding to the impressive 80,000 square feet of meeting space, marina, spa, tennis courts and fitness center, the property’s five pools and public spaces will be updated to reflect Margaritaville’s "no worries" lifestyle. Davidson Hotels & Resorts will operate the property as Paradise Point Resort & Spa until the hotel is transitioned and will continue to manage the property following the completion of the renovation and rebranding program, a timeline of which has yet to be set.
