After less than a year in business in San Diego's East Village, WhipHand American Brasserie + Beer Bank has shuttered.
Opened in December 2018 by San Diego-based Grind & Prosper Hospitality, which includes Pete Cich (Park 101, Miss B's Coconut Club, Pacific Beach Shore Club) as its founding member, Whip Hand was a casual-meets-fine-dining sandwich restaurant, French brasserie, and serve-your-own beer bar located in the Petco Park adjacent restaurant storefront that last housed the short-lived Salvucci’s in downtown San Diego's East Village. The menu was created by Chef Quinnton Austin, who relocated to San Diego from Thibodaux, LA, to take the position as Grind & Prosper Culinary Director and lead the kitchen at the hospitality group's New Orleans inspired bar & restaurant Louisiana Purchase.
There is no word for the reason behind WhipHand's closure, but we speculate it is due to the difficult location. We reached out to representatives of the company for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
