The co-founder of expanding Chula Vista craft brewery Novo Brazil is in the process of opening National City Market On 8th, an 11,000 square foot indoor/outdoor food hall with an onsite beer bar and 8-10 vendors offering street food and artisan goods.
From Novo Brazil Brewing co-founder Joel Tubao, whose craft brewery is in the process of finishing a 12,000 square-foot brewpub and restaurant to unveil in the Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista next month, Market on 8th aims to open in early 2020 featuring a variety of food vendors, a cafe, and an outdoor beer garden. Eateries currently signed on include Middletown micro-roaster Moe Coffee, Poway-based Pacific Poke, Thai food specialist Ping Yang, Serbesa Filipino Kitchen, Louisiana comfort food eatery Smittys Taste of the Bayou, Wicked Maine Lobster serving New England-style seafood, Sonoran-style Mexican eatery La Central Urban Grill, and Yeti Dessert Cafe. An expansive outdoor beer garden will be operated by Novo Brazil Brewing Co. and offer their lineup of locally produced craft brews, as well as kombucha, wine and soft drinks. There will also be an onsite retail component from The Fresh Yard, which has a location in North Park.
"The Food Hall is intended to ignite the area and redefine a multi-cultural food community atmosphere for National City in general," commented founder Joel Tubao.
National City Market On 8th will join a growing lineup of San Diego food halls to open in the past few years. The food hall trend got its start in America's Finest City with the crowd-sourced 2012 opening of now-defunct San Diego Public Market, which was followed by Liberty Public Market in March 2016. Last year, the Little Italy Food Hall opened (and is currently in the process of expanding), and the Windmill Food Hall recently unveiled in Carlsbad. Next year, The Sky Deck will open in Del Mar Highlands Town Center, offering two-floors and 20,000 square-foot of space with a central cocktail bar, rooftop beer garden and 10 unique restaurant concepts.
National Market On 8th aims to open at 41 E 8th Street in National City at some point in first quarter 2020, possibly as early as December 2019.
