Adding to its more than 1,200 locations around the globe, LiuYiShou Hotpot has targeted San Diego's Kearny Mesa community for its first Southern California location.
Founded in Chongqing, China in 2000 as a modest street cafe, Liuyishou Hotpot now has over 1,200 locations around the world, including in China, Canada, United States, Dubai, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, France, and Spain, and is on track to become the biggest hotpot chain on the planet. The Liuyishou name literally translates to "one armed Liu" - a pun on the founder who lost an arm during a motorcycle accident.
Liuyishou offers a menu centered around Chongqing-style hot pot, which is notable for its introduction of spicy Sichuan peppers as a broth base. The restaurant also offers a 32 item buffet-style sauce bar, which also includes fresh fruits and tripe salad. Soup ingredients are presented on round wooden platters that allow the broths to sit in the middle for easy table-side dipping. Expect an array of meat options like premium marbled beef cuts, wild mixed mushrooms, seasonal greens, boiled fish, braised duck, braised chicken with fresh coconut, pork ribs with Chinese herbs, and an extensive vegetarian selection.
Liuyishou will replace ShuDao Hotpot within the Convoy Pointe Plaza Shopping Center at 4690 Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa. There is no specific timeline on when the restaurant will open. For more information, visit liuyishouna.com.
