Last fall we broke the news that Sicilian-born chefs and co-owners Vincenzo Loverso and longtime partner Alessandro Minutella had negotiated a deal to take over the downtown San Diego space previously occupied by Blue Point Coastal Cuisine for over two decades. Loverso is an experience area restaurateur who owns and operates such San Diego eateries as Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, The Butcher's Cut, Fresh Catch Market & Grill, and Farmer's Table. Although Cohn Restaurant Group President & Founder David Cohn initially hoped to close Blue Point over the slow winter months to rebrand the concept in partnership with Joe Vaught, who is the founding member of another San Diego hospitality behemoth, The Verant Group (Barleymash, Tavern, True North), ultimately the dynamic duo was unable to secure a new lease with building property manager Trilogy Real Estate Management. Cohn Restaurant Group recently shuttered its Gaslamp Strip Club restaurant stating the closure was for a remodel, but we surmise Cohn is reviving his planned Verant Group partnership project at that location and will not be reopening the cook-your-own steakhouse.
Opening later this year at 565 Fifth Avenue is Saltwater Fine Dining Cuisine, an upscale seafood restaurant and bar. Expect the eatery to be similar to Osetra The Fishhouse with a menu centered around fresh caught seafood dishes complimented by a full bar with a curated global wine selection.
Saltwater Fine Dining Cuisine aims to open by this spring.
