Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ Unveils Massive Downtown San Diego Location

October 6, 2020

Japan-based super chain Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ has unveiled its second San Diego location in the expansive Gaslamp Quarter space last occupied by Analog Bar.

Founded in Japan in 1996, Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ now has more than 700 locations around the globe, including nearly 50 branches in the United States. The restaurant specializes in yakiniku, or grilled barbecue, a process where customers cook their own meats, seafood and vegetables over a smokeless table-top grill, similar to Korean barbecue. The first San Diego branch opened in Scripps Ranch in 2014.

The second area location of Gyu Kaku soft opened this week in the Gaslamp Quarter space that last housed Analog Bar, which shuttered at the end of 2018. In addition to a full menu of a la carte, grill-your-own meats served with sweet and savory sauces, the new location also offers a variety of appetizers, noodles, soups, rice dishes, salads, and has a full bar with cocktails, beer, wine and sake. The restaurant also boasts an all-you-can-eat option and will eventually host weekend brunch. Gyu Kaku's downtown location is owned and operated by Ryo Tozu, Hiratsugu Aiba, Akitsugu Yamaguchi, and Reins International Company.

Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ is now open daily from 5pm - 9:30pm at 801 5th Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp. The restaurant is currently operating by reservation only for parties up to 4. For more information, call 619.310.5782 and visit gyu-kaku.com.
