More Hot Chicken Is Coming To San Diego | Los Angeles-Based The Angry Chickz To Open In North County

October 14, 2020

The Nashville hot chicken trend is showing no signs of slowing down! Los Angeles-based The Angry Chickz will launch its 7th location in San Diego.

Being Nashville hot chicken restaurants are popping up in San Diego at a feverish pace, a bit of background history: As the story goes, Nashville hot fried chicken was invented by accident when known ladies man Thornton Prince III cheated on his lady and her revenge was a fried chicken dinner made with extra spice to provide a bit of painful payback. Prince ended up loving the delicious vengeance so much he went on to open Prince's Hot Chicken Shack in the mid-1930s, and the rest is history. The spicy chicken preparation has greatly gained in popularity in 2020 and is likely the most prolific menu trend of the past year with Nashville hot chicken eateries opening non-stop in San Diego, including Dave's Hot Chicken, Corner Chicken, Firebirds Hot Chicken, Main Chick, My Chick, and Fluster Cluck, to name a few.

The newest hot chicken contender to fly into America's Finest City is The Angry Chickz, which was founded in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles in 2019 by David Mkhitaryan who now has a half dozen outposts in the works around the LA area. The restaurant was originally called Angry Birdz but was sued by the makers of popular app game Angry Birds for trademark infringement and had to change the name. Like other area hot chicken shops, Angry Chickz serves fried chicken tenders at various spice levels available with pickles and white bread or as a sandwich. The eatery also serves a variety of sides including mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and fries.

Angry Chickz is expected to open by year's end in the 2,035 square-foot space at 612 Mission Avenue in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit angry-birdz.business.site
