The owner of San Diego taco destination Tuetano Taqueria has opened Mujer Divina, a Mexican coffee house and authentic burrito shop now serving in National City.
It's been a whirlwind ride since Chef Priscilla Curiel opened her quaint taco shop Tuetano Taqueria in San Diego's South County border town of San Ysidro just two years ago. A graduate of the culinary program at the Art Institute of San Diego, Chef Curiel was raised to be a restaurateur. She grew up working in all facets of the industry at her family's restaurants on both sides of the border, Talavera Azul in Chula Vista and La Espadaña in Tijuana. In its short tenure, Tuetano Taqueria has been spotlighted in a multitude of publications, ranging from a glowing review in Food & Wine Magazine, to a mention in GQ's Best New Restaurants List, and most recently, being named as one of 25 Delicious Discoveries Across California by world-renown Michelin Guide.
Chef Priscilla's most recent project is Mujer Divina, a traditional Mexican Coffee Shop and burrito eatery now open for take-out in National City. Meaning "divine women" in English, Mujer Divina is designed in tribute to all the many women who have served as an inspiration to Curiel over the years. The eatery offers an array of Mexican-inspired coffee drinks and lattes, including the famous Cafe de Olla cinnamon coffee. There is also a concise menu of burritos "Hilera-style", the traditional burrito preparation with a fresh flour tortilla folded around slow cooked, stewed meats. Unlike other San Diego burrito shops, Mujer Divina's versions stay true to the original style and are not jam packed and completely wrapped. There will also be a variety of garnaches, a traditional dish composed of fried corn tortillas topped with ingredients like beans, shredded cabbage, cheese, and other garnishes. Expect other frequent specials like Chilaquiles topped with Curiel's famous birria de res.
Mujer Divina is now open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 3pm at 310 8th Street, Suite A, in San Diego's National City. Follow the eatery on Instagram for updates and check out the menu below.
