Baba's Chicken To Open In San Diego's Hillcrest

January 19, 2021

More Nashville hot chicken is coming to America's Finest City! Riverside, CA-based Baba's Chicken will soon open the company's first San Diego location in Hillcrest, taking over the space that last housed Blue Fourno Grill.

University of California Riverside student Mahmoud "Mike" Hemood started Baba's Chicken as a pop-up outside his friend's retail store before teaming up with longtime restaurant industry insider Ommar Choudhry to bring the concept to the next level and open the first brick-and-mortar in February 2020 within the Riverside Food Lab. Later in 2020, the team launched a second outpost in the LAB Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa.

Baba's Chicken will soon open a 2,700 square-foot eatery in the heart of Hillcrest and will by three brothers and friends of the original founder,  led by the youngest brother Ali Sharif. Like the other branches, the menu will be centered around Nashville spicy fried chicken made with free-range, humanely-processed and hormone-free birds. Baba’s Chicken is also Halal certified. The simple menu includes hot chicken available at 5 different spice levels as sandwiches, sliders, and tenders, in addition to sides like mac n' cheese, smothered fries, fried pickles, and a garlic grilled cheese sandwich that can also be used as buns for chicken sandwiches. The eatery also offers an array of fountain craft sodas.

Baba's Chicken aims to open by this spring at 406 W University Ave, Suite B, in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. For more information, visit babashotchicken.com.
