After 7 years in business, Bang Bang shuttered in downtown San Diego last summer, but the nightlife and sushi destination will soon reopen under new ownership.
Most widely known for its Ryan Gosling-plastered women's bathroom, Bang Bang is a 7,000 square-foot, second story sushi house and nighttime hotspot that first opened in downtown San Diego in July 2013. The restaurant was founded by Johnny Shocky and business partner Mauricio Couturier, a designer that also owns El Camino Mexican restaurant in Little Italy and is in the process of building the amusement park-themed Wolfie's Carousel (which has a rotating carousel bar). The partners first collaborated together on the opening on now-defunct Gaslamp Quarter nightclub Voyeur.
Management of Bang Bang has been taken over by Miami-based Pyramid Artists & Events, a nightlife promotion and party company founded by Islam Ahmed in early 2019. The space will be kept mostly as-is and will be revived without many changed made to the design or concept. Expect the sushi bar and restaurant to reopen when restrictions on indoor dining are loosened. Once possible, the bar will focus on once again becoming a nightlife destination, hosting live DJ sets with a focus on house music.
Bang Bang is at located at 526 Market Street in downtown San Diego. For more information, visit bangbangsd.com.
