Last summer news broke that the original location of San Diego burger destination The Balboa Bar & Grill was permanently closing in Bankers Hill, but after expanding into the next door space, the restaurant will reopen on April 15.
Opened by former line cook and Bonita-native Tom Logsdon in early 2015, who was previously operating underground burger-centric Doods Food in the bar that was last located in The Balboa's Banker Hill space, The Balboa Bar & Grill quickly became known as one of the top burger spots in America's Finest City. In December 2019, a second location of The Balboa opened on 3rd Avenue in San Diego's South County city of Chula Vista.
The original Bankers Hill location of The Balboa announced its closure this past July due to COVID-19 restrictions on indoor dining, but the owner of the building eventually agreed to assist the eatery in growing into the neighboring property. The Balboa has since expanded into the adjacent space and doubled its size to increase capacity in order to survive during continued pandemic precautions. The bar & restaurant will reopen on Thursday, April 15, at 4pm, with its menu of burgers, sandwiches, fries, craft beer and cocktails. The business is now only accessible for dine-in to those 21 and over, but the Chula Vista location is open for all ages.
The Balboa Bar & Grill is located at 1863 5th Avenue in San Diego's Bankers Hill community. For more information, visit thebalboabarandgrill.com.
