Comedian George Lopez is the latest celebrity being used to push food via "ghost kitchen" in San Diego, as his name brand, delivery-only tacos will soon be available via third party food delivery apps.
Comedian and actor George Lopez is no stranger to the restaurant industry. Lopez already operates several locations of his Chingon Kitchen in California and Arizona, as well as George Lopez Brewing in Torrance, CA. Soon he will get into the rising "virtual kitchen" business with the opening of George Lopez Tacos.George Lopez Tacos is the latest endeavor from Nextbite, a company founded in 2019 that focuses on the virtual restaurant space and also backs Wiz Khalifa's Hotbox by Wiz. Nextbite is controlled by Ordermark, a technology company founded in 2008 by Alex Canter, the fourth generation operator of Canter's Deli. Lopez Tacos will be available in San Diego and other cities via 3rd party delivery apps like Postmates and Doordash starting on June 8. Expect a menu of street tacos topped with slow-cooked meats.
"My street tacos are all about helping you rompe your routines and dinner expectations with a badass street taco experience that tastes damn delicious," said George Lopez. "With Nextbite’s delivery-only concept, we are helping restaurants thrive by adding a delicious delivery-only menu item that allows them to get a little bit of George in the kitchen and bring more revenue into their operation."
Virtual online-only "ghost kitchens" are a growing business trend as diners more frequently choose to have meals delivered rather than eating at restaurants. Many delivery-exclusive ghost kitchen concepts now operate in San Diego, including FlavorTown Kitchen by Guy Fieri, MrBeast Burger, and Barrio Food Hub - a 10,000 square-foot kitchen-filled warehouse founded by the former CEO of Uber that will eventually house more than 50 eateries.
