San Diego's 5-year-old Sepulveda Meats & Provisions in Golden Hill will soon open a neighboring eatery specializing in small bites, local beer and wine.
John Sepulveda opened his namesake butcher shop and market in San Diego's South Park/Golden Hill area in early 2016, offering a counter stocked with sausages, deli meats and cuts of beef, pork and chicken, as well as a curated marketplace with items like pasta and marinades. Sepulveda recently took over the adjacent space that last housed a beauty salon and is in the process of converting the unit to become a quaint bar and eatery.
Dubbed Juan Jasper Kitchen + Wines, the new restaurant component of Sepulveda Meats & Provisions will offer a menu of shareable plates like sausage and meat boards, seafood dishes, finger sandwiches, and more, complimented by a bar with a selection of area craft beer and hand selected wines. Ownership plans to frequently adapt and expand the menu based on seasonal availability of products.
"Juan Jasper is going to be a small wine bar/ retail bottle shop with a kitchen serving small plates as well as prepared food for guests to take home," explained owner John Sepulveda. "There will be no one type of cuisine but rather a serious focus on traditional dishes from wine making regions around the world that pair well with the wine and beer we sell. All of our beef, pork, chicken, lamb will come from our butcher shop next door but we will also utilize the outstanding local seafood purveyors in San Diego for a few of our plates in the wine bar."
Juan Jasper is expected to open by this October at 1216 28th Street in San Diego's Golden Hill community. For more information, follow the restaurant's Instagram page.
