Mystique Dining will pair decadent multi-course meals with a magic show when it opens its second area location in downtown San Diego this fall.
Terry Commons started Mystique in 1990 as a haunted mansion magic performance meant to take place solely during the Halloween season, but due to the success of the project, he launched the first Mystique Dining experience in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1997. Commons, who is trained as a magician, eventually launched outposts in Boise, Salt Lake City, and Folsom, CA. We reported earlier this year that Mystique Dining was opening a location in the former Masala Street space at 915 Pearl Street in the heart of La Jolla Village, which is set to open mid-October, but we recently found out that a second area location is in the works for San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.
Mystique Dining's downtown San Diego location will be a more casual sister concept dubbed The Prestige Magic Lounge & Showroom, taking over the former Illusions Theatre and Bar space in the Gaslamp. Expect a Victorian-style decor where guests will enjoy a three-course dinner served via maid and butler before participating in an evening of magic by a world-class magician. Patrons will choose a main dish with selections like prime rib, Cornish game hen, vegetarian lasagna, and macaroni and cheese, then they will witness a 45-minute magic show by a Master of Magic following dessert. The experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours in total.
Admission prices for a Mystique Dining and The Prestige range from $60-$150, depending on proximity to the performer, and there are many menu and dietary upgrades available for an additional charge. Reservation costs do not include upgrades, gratuity, applicable sales tax or service charges. Water and sodas are included with admission, but Martinelli's Sparkling Ciders, hot drinks, beer and wine are an additional charge.
The Prestige Magic Lounge and Showroom is expected to unveil by mid-to-late November at 827 4th Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. For more information, visit mystiquedining.com.
