A 100% Vegan Farmers Market Set To Launch In San Diego

October 30, 2021

Vegan Depot is a Riverside, CA-based vegan farmers market concept that will launch next month in San Diego.

Vegan Depot is a plant-based farmers market started by Christina Bohannon in Corona, CA, in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. The concept has since expanded to Riverside, CA and downtown Los Angeles, with plans to pop up to 10 additional cities in the next couple years. Vegan Depot will start its San Diego farmers market on November 14, from 11am-5pm, in the lot next to the parking area for the San Diego Zoo and take place every other Sunday with about 50 entirely vegan vendors.

"Vegan Depot was born out of necessity," explained founder Christina Bohannon. "Back in 2018, I opened Organic Junkie as Corona's first vegan restaurant. When the lockdowns happened I did everything I could - I limited my menu, I had to let go of employees and was hanging on by a thread. I knew so many vegan businesses that didn't make it. I knew so many struggling who I have been neighbors with at vegan events and farmer's markets. We were 6 months into the pandemic and I knew farmer's markets were still considered essential. I gathered 15 vendors and set up in the parking lot of a local bar, The Depot, that's how we became Vegan Depot. All 15 vendors sold out in 3 hours. I then set out to become a farmer's market so the vendors and I had a place to not only keep our dream alive but also to survive."

San Diego vendors at the inaugural Vegan Depot will include Kula Ice Cream, Stone Monkey, Double Batch vegan cheese and Kove craft heard yerba mate, to name a few. Vegan Depot veterans like Veggie Fam, Secret Pizza and Nova Boba will also venture to San Diego for the premier event. In addition to a multitude of prepared food vendors, food trucks, and produce stands, there will also be a wide selection of artisan crafters and service providers.
