San Clemente-based Artifex Brewing has plans to open a tasting room in San Diego's North County as part of a new multi-use property that will also house a second location of Leucadia's Corner Pizza and the third branch of Northside Shack.
Mercantile 2 will be an Art Deco-style building that will house four businesses, including a 2,600 square-foot location of Corner Pizza, a Brooklyn-style pizzeria, raw bar, wine house and beer garden that first launched last year in Encinitas. Popular local juice bar Northside Shack will also bring the "most copied bowls in the world" to a 1,205 square-foot space within the building. Founded by a former assistant brewer for Pizza Port Solana Beach, San Clemente's 7-year-old Artifex Brewing will also open a 1,609 square-foot tasting room in the center unit. A 968 square-foot space remains available for rent in Mercantile 2.
The buildings at 510 Vista Way and 1940 South Freeman Street in Oceanside are currently under construction to become Mercantile 1 & 2, a restaurant and retail collective by Fabric Design, which also developed Tremont Collective in Oceanside and State Street Commons in Carlsbad. Although not expected to be completed until summer 2022, Mercantile 2 already has three out of four tenants signed on.
Artifex Brewing was founded in 2014 by head brewer Johnny Johur, who started his journey in the craft beer industry as the bar manager of Pizza Port in Solana Beach before being promoted to assistant brewer. Artifex currently has two locations in San Clemente, CA. Artifex is the Latin word for an artisan or craftsman.
