Opening soon in the space that long housed Pizzeria Bruno in San Diego's University Heights neighborhood is Basilicò La Pizzeria, a Neapolitan pizza house and authentic Southern Italian restaurant.
Basilicò La Pizzeria is the product of an experienced team of Italian restaurateurs, including Giancarlo Guttilla, Alfredo Piraino, Mario Liga, and pizzaiolo Vincenzo Palumbo. The crew recently leased the space that housed Pizzeria Bruno for 12 years before it closed last month and is in the process of renovating the building. They will do some interior design upgrades and add a back patio space with a bar & al fresco seating in addition to the front outdoor area.
"After coming to the U.S. years ago from Sicily & Naples, Italy, and working in San Diego restaurants, we realized it was time to do our own thing," explained Basilico La Pizzaria co-founder Vincenzo Palumbo. "We want to share our passion & love for our craft and the flavors from our homes in Italy with the San Diego community."
The menu at Basilicò La Pizzeria will be more extensive than what patrons found at Pizzeria Bruno. In addition to an array of authentic Neapolitan pizzas cooked to order in a Stefano Ferrara pizza oven, there will also be a variety of Southern Italian dishes ranging from antipasti to insalate, pasta to meat & seafood entrees, as well as a selection of calzones. From the bar, there will be a curated wine list, local & Italian beers, and wine cocktails.
Basilicò La Pizzeria is expected to open as early as this November at 4207 Park Boulevard on the border of San Diego's University Heights and North Park neighborhoods. Follow the restaurant on Instagram for updates.
