Dubbed as the "vegan Amazon", PlantX has opened a branch of its XMarket retail store and café in San Diego's Hillcrest community.
Plant-based retail store and café XMarket has opened in San Diego in the 4,515 square-foot space that previously housed H2O Sushi in Hillcrest. The store is the second United States outpost of Canadian e-commerce company Vegaste Technologies Corp., which was founded by vegan entrepreneur Sean Dollinger in February 2020 and operates the PlantX online platform with more than 10,000 plant-based products ranging from cosmetics to clothing. As part of its expansion plans, the company recently partnered with Matthew Kenney, a celebrity chef, entrepreneur, cookbook author, and restaurateur specializing in plant-based cuisine.
Encompassing a modern atrium with high roof skylights and a front patio, the new San Diego XMarket includes a plant-based retail store, an education center, and a cafe & sandwich shop. The retail store showcases a variety of carefully curated plant-based items from popular Canadian and U.S. brands and aims to increase public engagement by offering an interactive shopping experience via the PlantX app. Customers will be able to access high-quality grocery items, cosmetics, wellness products and indoor plants.
"The grand opening event celebrating our XMarket store in Hillcrest is yet another opportunity to increase our company's profile," PlantX Founder said Sean Dollinger. "We are proud of our presence in Hillcrest, and we are eager to serve the local community and enjoy the opening festivities with them."
The XMarket café and sandwich shop offers vegan coffee beverages and diverse plant-based options from Matthew Kenney Cuisine. Additionally, the location will feature an education center displaying a variety of plant-based recipe cards, videos and other resources that can enhance customers' plant-based knowledge.
XMarket is now open at 3930 Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Hillcrest. For more information, visit plantx.com/pages/xmarket-san-diego.
