The "world's largest Bánh Mì chain" Lee's Sandwiches will open its first San Diego location in early 2022.
Lee's Sandwiches was founded in San Jose, CA in 1983 by Vietnamese immigrants, brothers Chieu and Henry Le and their family, who began the business as a food truck and catering company. In 2001, the brand extended the menu with the addition of more European-style sandwiches, fresh baked baguettes, croissants, desserts, and an extensive line of drinks including Lee’s Coffee. Today, Lee’s Sandwiches is known as the world’s biggest chain of banh mi sandwich shops, believed to be responsible with introducing the sandwich variety to Americans. The company now has more than 60 stores in eight states and Taiwan, as well as an offshoot brand Lee's Coffee Roastery.
The first San Diego branch of Lee's Sandwiches will open in the space that last housed Dickey's Barbecue Pit within University Square shopping center in Rolando/El Cajon. Like other locations, expect a menu of Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, "Euro sandwiches" with cold cuts on croissants, and appetizers like hot wings, chicken nuggets, spring rolls and egg rolls, as well as Vietnamese desserts, pastries and hot & cold coffee drinks. Based on the success of the first Lee's Sandwiches, more outposts may open around San Diego in the coming years.
Lee's Sandwiches is anticipated to open in January 2022 at 5801 University Avenue, Suite B-1, in El Cajon. For more information, visit leesandwiches.com.
